I can finally tick Bourke Street Bakery off my Sydney food adventure list! Peter and I drove to Surry Hills a few Saturdays ago and managed to find street parking not too far from Bourke St. As this famous little bakery is known for its long queues, it was not surprising that we knew we were there when we saw a queue in front of a corner building.
Even though there were about 8 people ahead of us we only had to wait a few minutes – efficient service!
Whilst there aren’t many tables to sit inside or outside the bakery, there is a nice patch of grass on the opposite side of the road as well as public park benches everywhere – so that’s where we savoured our lunch whilst enjoying the beautiful Sydney spring weather.
We bought a Beef Brisket Pie ($5.50) and their popular Pork and Fennel Sausage Roll ($4.50).
I don’t generally like sausage rolls, but this one was delicious – it was juicy and full of flavour. The fennel did not overpower the roll. Peter enjoyed his pie that came with big chunks of real beef, I took a bite but preferred my sausage roll.
The sweet treats!! Ginger Brulee Tart ($5) on the left and Lemon Curd Tart ($5) on the right.
Both tarts went beyond my expectations, I loved the sour, tanginess of the Lemon Curd and the Ginger Crème Brulee was exceptional. These sweet treats left me wanting for more.
This place is worth visiting, I will be coming back to try more of their amazing treats.
