Brewtown – Newtown

DSC03269 I’ve been craving a cronut since I first heard about the craze in NYC… so I’ve been wanting to visit Brewtown for a while as they are one of the few (but growing) places offering cronuts in Sydney at the moment. If you’re unfamiliar with “cronut” it’s basically a crossover between a croissant and a donut that was created by chef Dominique Ansel. The Cronut became a popular phenomenon and TIME magazine even named the pastry as one of “The 25 Best Inventions of the Year 2013”! DSC03289 I arrived at Brewtown past midday for a late Saturday lunch so we didn’t have to wait for long. The vibe was very lively with many families, couples and friends catching up over lunch or coffee. DSC03276 DSC03272 The Elvis Burger ($16.50) caught my eye so I gave it a go. This dish included ground beef, savoury brewnut, Canadian bacon, Gruyรจre and mayo served with chips and relish. This was delish but if you are trying to eat healthy – stay away! The burger buns are deep-fried savoury cronuts. Overall the Elvis is oily, fatty but very tasty ๐Ÿ˜‰ DSC03274 If you’re looking for a healthier option, they also do salads… such as the Wood-smoked Salmon Salad with goat’s cheese, caper berries and baby beets ($17) I had a few bites and it was refreshing and full of flavour. DSC03280 Glazed Brewnut ($4.50) mmmm… what I was here for… the cronut or “brewnut”, the best of both croissant and donut worlds. You’ve ought to try it to understand why people queue up for it!
